Aurora Harris has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Aurora has served as the Senior Director of Regional Strategy at Young Invincibles since October 2022. Prior to that, they held the role of Southern Regional Director from October 2019 to November 2022, and Deputy Director of Partnerships and Organizing from February 2017 to October 2019 at the same organization.
Before joining Young Invincibles, Aurora was the Executive Director of The Lesbian Health Initiative (LHI) from November 2015 to February 2017, where they focused on transforming the agency's communications and outreach strategies, establishing collaborative partnerships, and increasing diversity in board leadership and volunteers. Aurora also served as an Affordable Care Act LGBT consumer representative for the White House Health and Human Services Secretary Burwell and Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy.
Prior to their role at LHI, Aurora worked as a Senior Outreach and Navigation Specialist (SONS) at the Lesbian Health Initiative of Houston, Inc. (LHI) from August 2014 to November 2015. In this position, they played a crucial role in eliminating healthcare barriers and promoting health and wellness for LGBT-identified women and transgender men through education, access, and advocacy programs.
Aurora also gained experience at Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, where they worked as a Customer Service Representative from April to August 2014 and as a Health Center Advocacy Organizer from February to April 2014. In these roles, they provided quality client services, including appointment setting, eligibility and fee assessment, and reproductive health care.
Additionally, Aurora held the position of Community Outreach Manager at The Preservation Society of Charleston from 2011 to 2014. Aurora was responsible for building support for preservation in the region and making the society relevant to diverse constituencies.
Prior to their professional career, Aurora worked as a Counselor at The Homework Club from August 2009 to July 2011. Aurora also gained experience as a Program Intern at African American Studies Program from August to December 2009 and as a Servant Leader Intern at Children's Defense Fund from June to August 2009.
Aurora's early work experience includes roles such as Cougar Caller at Cougar Call Center, where they secured donations and thanked alumni and parents for gifts, and Resident Assistant (RA) at Liberty Street Residence Hall, where they facilitated the development of community and served as a role model for residents.
