Gary Knopp

Gary Knopp has a diverse work experience in the field of information technology. Gary is the Director of Information Technology at YW Calgary since 2023. Prior to this, they worked at Grant Thornton LLP as a Senior Technology Program Manager - Mergers & Acquisitions (Transactions) from 2019 to 2023. In this role, they led the IT M&A due-diligence team and provided support to legal and senior decision-makers. Gary also implemented technology systems and managed cross-functional IT integration teams.

Before that, Gary Knopp held various roles at Grant Thornton LLP in Canada. Gary started as the National Service Desk Manager from 2007 to 2019, where they ensured smooth delivery of technical support services and developed service level agreements. Gary then served as the Business Relationship Manager of IT – Western Canada from 2013 to 2017, working directly with the CIO and providing technology support to accounting professionals.

Furthermore, they were the IT Service Manager, Alberta Business Unit from 2011 to 2012, overseeing technology for multiple offices and managing a team. Lastly, they worked as the Manager, IT - Business Risk Services from 2007 to 2011, delivering computer forensic examination and eDiscovery support, as well as conducting IT security assessments.

Gary Knopp obtained an Advanced Diploma in Computer Networking from CDI in the years 2000 to 2002. Gary also obtained several certifications throughout their career, including Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE) from ISACA in 2021, Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT) from ISACA in 2014, and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) from ISACA Vancouver Chapter in 2012. Gary also obtained additional certifications such as ITIL Foundation, IT Service from EXIN in 2013 and PCI-DSS Approved Scanning Vendor PCI-ASV from the PCI Security Standards Council in 2012. Gary participated in various professional development programs, including the Global Nonprofit Leaders Summit organized by Microsoft, and Strategies for Overcoming Bias & Microaggressions at Work hosted by The Leaders Circle.
