Shannon Cornelius, MSW, is a Director of Health and Wellness at YWCA of Asheville and WNC. Previously, shannon worked as a Program Director at Pisgah Legal Services, a Yoga Instructor at YMCA of Western North Carolina and Harmony Yoga, a Communications Volunteer at Groundswell International, a Yoga Instructor at University of Colorado Denver, Anschutz Health and Wellness Center, a Project Manager at OMNI Institute, an HIV/STI Prevention and Outreach Coordinator at Tri-County Health Department, a Prevention Educator/Case Manager at First Nations Community HealthSource, and an Intake Coordinator/Case Manager at Bread for the City. Shannon holds a Master's Degree in Social Work from New Mexico Highlands University and a Bachelor's Degree in Religious Studies from St. Lawrence University.

Established in 1907, YWCA Asheville is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, nurturing children and promoting health. We offer programs and advocate for policy change to bridge gaps in education, health, childcare and earning power for women and families in our community and beyond. Our work includes the MotherLove Program for pregnant and parenting teens, the Getting Ahead (in a just gettin' by world) Financial Empowerment Program for women, our Diabetes Wellness and Prevention Program, our body-positive, gender-inclusive Fitness and Aquatics Center, Empowerment Child Care, Early Learning Child Care Program, and racial justice advocacy and programming.
