Sorien Schmidt is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in program management, policy advocacy, and community engagement. Currently serving as a Senior Program Officer at the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation since October 2017, Sorien previously held the position of North Carolina Director at Enroll America, where leadership encompassed the management of 13 staff and substantial volunteer engagement. Sorien's background includes roles such as Director of Community Engagement and Policy at Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina, Senior Vice President at Action for Children NC, and Legislative Director/Lobbyist at the NC Justice Center, all involving significant advocacy for children and families in North Carolina. Sorien co-founded and led the Covenant with North Carolina's Children, promoting collaboration among child-serving organizations, and practiced law as a Staff Attorney at Central Carolina Legal Services. Sorien holds a J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law and a B.A. in English and Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
