Sterling Wharton has a varied work experience, beginning in 2009 when they became a Board Member for the Marietta Development Authority. In 2008, they became an Outside Director for ZeeWise. In 2007, they were an Entrepreneur in Residence for the Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC). In 2008, they were the Executive Director for Centers of Innovation. In 2005, they became the President and CEO of Unitrends. In 2011, they were Vice President of Business and Corporate Development for Promethean. In 2012, they became Principal for Total Performance Services and also Principal for PowerUpEDU. Finally, in 2013 they became the CEO of Square Roots Group.

Sterling Wharton began their educational journey in 1976 when they attended Georgia State University and earned a BBA in Accounting in 1980. Sterling then furthered their education by attending the MIT Sloan School of Management from 1984 to 1985, where they earned an EMBA in Information Technology.
