James Wernle

James Wernle is an experienced professional in the field of bioengineering, currently serving as Associate Director of Research at Zimmer Biomet since February 2011. In this role, James leads a team of biomaterials engineers focused on innovative materials, surface coating technologies, ingrowth surfaces, and additive manufacturing. Prior positions include Program Manager and Principal Engineer, with a specialization in advanced process engineering, as well as Senior Research Engineer II, where responsibilities included testing in the Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics Laboratory. James's academic background includes a Ph.D. in Bioengineering, mechanics, and materials from Syracuse University, attained between 2004 and 2008, and a postdoctoral research associate position at SUNY Upstate Medical University from July 2008 to January 2011, following a fellowship at the Syracuse Biomaterials Institute.
