Naomi Altman

Naomi Altman has a strong work experience in the fields of aerospace engineering and research. Naomi is currently serving as the Head of Powertrain at Zipline since April 2022. Prior to that, they held the roles of Head of Electrical Engineering and Head of Test Engineering at Zipline from August 2020 to April 2022.

Before joining Zipline, Naomi worked at Rocket Lab USA for a significant duration. From July 2017 to August 2020, they served as the Avionics Manager, leading the Avionics Engineering for the Electron launch vehicle and Photon lunar platform. Naomi was responsible for various aspects such as architecture design, circuit board design, system integration, and certification. During their tenure, they also played a vital role in scaling the team and directing R&D programs.

Prior to their managerial role, Naomi served as a Senior Electronic Systems Engineer - Flight Safety System at Rocket Lab USA from October 2016 to July 2017. Naomi'sresponsibilities included leading a multi-disciplinary team for the design and certification of the Flight Safety System.

Further, Naomi worked as an Electronics Engineer at Rocket Lab USA from October 2013 to October 2016. Naomi was involved in designing custom avionics hardware and architectures, including Lithium-ion battery systems, embedded systems, and safety-critical systems. Naomi also contributed to PCB design, mechanical integration, embedded software, and environmental testing.

Before their notable career at Rocket Lab USA, Naomi gained research experience at the University of Western Australia and the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research. Naomi worked as a Research Intern at the University of Western Australia from February 2013 to July 2013, contributing to the development of optical fiber networks and conducting high-precision frequency measurements. Naomi also conducted an honors thesis, working on improving the reliability of GaN-based chemical sensors.

Naomi's early experiences include serving as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Western Australia from February 2010 to November 2012, where they taught physics laboratories and tutorials. Naomi also worked as a Summer Vacation Scholar at the Defence Science and Technology Organisation in 2012 and as a Research Assistant at the University of Washington during their summer vacation in 2011.
