Ion Alberdi

Software Engineer at ZOE

Ion Alberdi has a diverse work experience spanning several companies and roles. They started their career as a Software Engineer at Intel Corporation in 2012, where they focused on test scheduling efficiency in the Continuous Integration engine of Intel inside Android software. Ion designed and implemented a system to detect flaky tests and used historical data to demonstrate the impact of removing flakiness on regression scheduling.

In 2016, Ion joined Criteo as a Senior Software Engineer, initially working in the devtools/build-services team, responsible for the build/CI of two trunks (JVM/.NET). They successfully migrated the JVM trunk from a 1000+ multi module maven mono repository to Gradle, resulting in significant build time and CI speed improvements. Ion then transitioned to the data-proc-scheduling team, contributing to the development of Bigdataflow, a multi-tenant self-service platform for batch processing workflows. They also developed an O(log(N)) algorithm that improved efficiency and provided correctness guarantees for the partition pruning algorithm.

In 2021, Ion joined Pricemoov as an Engineering Manager. They contributed to various projects, including proposing and implementing a new data model that significantly improved read/write workload speeds. They also worked on refactoring and fixing the deployment pipeline of the Backend and introduced observability systems using Datadog.

Currently, Ion works as a Software Engineer at ZOE, starting in 2023.

Ion Alberdi obtained an Engineer's degree in Computer Science from ENSEIRB-MATMECA in the years 2002 to 2005. Subsequently, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Systems Networking and Telecommunications at the Institut national des Sciences appliquées de Toulouse from 2006 to 2010. Additionally, they have acquired various certifications in different areas including Functional Programming in Scala, Big Data Analysis with Scala and Spark, Parallel Programming, Neural Networks for Machine Learning, Cryptography, Algorithms, and Machine Learning. The certifications were obtained from Coursera and span from 2016 to 2018.
