Michael Strong has a long and varied work history. Michael began their career in 1986 as a Watch Officer at the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School, where they taught sailing, rock-climbing, running, navigation, rowing and team-building. In 1996, they became Assistant Director at the Penn National Commission on Society, Culture & Community. In 2000, they were appointed AVP, Manager of Sothebys.com at Sotheby's Auction House. In 2007, they became Director of Project Managers at Hyphen Health, a digital marketing agency part of Omnicom. In 2008, they became a Literary Agent and Director of Marketing at Regal Literary. In 2011, they co-founded Zola Books, where they served as COO until 2016. In 2017, they began their current role as Senior National Trial Manager and National Trial Manager at Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Michael Strong completed their Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Middlebury College in 1986. Michael then earned their Master of Arts in English Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1990. Michael continued their education at the University of Pennsylvania, where they achieved an ABD in Comparative Literature & Literary Theory in 2000.
