Among the changes is the departure of 26-year Intel veteran Navin Shenoy, who will officially leave the tech company on July 6. He currently serves as the EVP and General Manager of the company’s Data Platforms Group (DPG), its second-largest segment by revenue.
Rivera is currently Intel’s Chief People Officer, but will transition to helm the Datacenter and AI group. Her new role places her in charge of developing leadership data center products as well as field programmable gate array (FPGA) products. She will also lead Intel’s AI strategy.
McKeown will head Intel’s new Network and Edge unit when he officially joins on July 6. As the group’s SVP and GM, he will lead the unification of Intel’s Internet of Things (IoT) Group and Connectivity Group into a single business. McKeown was previously a part-time Intel Senior Fellow, a role he took after the company he founded was acquired by Intel in 2019.
In addition to the DPG shake-up, Intel also announced the creation of the Software and Advanced Technology Group and the Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics Group.
Lavender’s counterpart at the head of the high-performance computing and graphics team is Raja Koduri, who previously served as Intel’s GM of Architecture, Graphics, and Software.
Rivera, McKeown, Lavender, and Koduri will all report to Gelsinger, who noted he is impressed with the company’s talent and innovation, but said that the must move faster to fulfill its ambitions.
Gelsinger went on to say, “By putting Sandra, Raja, Nick and Greg – with their decades of technology expertise – at the forefront of some of our most essential work, we will sharpen our focus and execution, accelerate innovation, and unleash the deep well of talent across the company.”
Last quarter, Intel posted GAAP revenue of $19.7 billion, down 1% when compared to the first quarter of 2020. Notably, the company’s Data Center Group posted $5.6 billion in revenue in the first quarter of 2021, down 20% year-over-year.
