Reddit, the social media site that proclaims itself “the front page of the internet,” has announced Michael Seibel will take the board seat that was recently vacated by the company’s co-founder Alexis Ohanian.

Ohanian resigned from Reddit’s Board of Directors last week and publicly stated he would like his position to go to a black candidate. In a blog post about his decision, Ohanian stated, “I believe resignation can actually be an act of leadership from people in power right now. To everyone fighting to fix our broken nation: do not stop.”

In his position, Seibel will advise and guide the company as it attempts to bring a sense of community and belonging to a broader audience.

Seibel brings a vast wealth of tech experience to his new role. He is the co-founder and former CEO of Justin.tv, a popular interactive video platform that is now known as Twitch. Since leaving Justin.tv, Seibel co-founded and ran Socialcam, a social video app that was bought by Autodesk in 2012. Seibel has worked at startup accelerator Y Combinator since 2013 and was named a partner in 2014 and CEO in 2016. The accelerator has funded and advised more than 1,800 startups over the past 7 years.

In the company’s announcement, CEO and co-founder Steve Huffman stated, “Few people have Michael’s deep background in tech and know the challenges and opportunities we face as well as he does, so we are honored he is joining us. Not to mention, he is one of the smartest and kindest people in tech.”

Seibel said, “I want to thank Steve, Alexis, and the entire Reddit board for this opportunity. I’ve known Steve and Alexis since 2007 and have been a Reddit user ever since. Over this period of time I’ve watched Reddit become part of the core fabric of the internet and I’m excited to help provide advice and guidance as Reddit continues to grow and tackle the challenges of bringing community and belonging to a broader audience.”
