Smedley didn’t offer up any details on the reason for her exit or her next move, but did say that there would be “More about what's next soon.” Robinhood hasn’t yet named her successor.
This month marks the one year mark since Smedley joined Robinhood from Facebook to unite the investing platform’s marketing, content, and communications teams under one unit and galvinize its product marketing and brand strategy.
In her announcement, Smedley added, “It's been great to build from small nascent foundations to establishing today’s team of amazing marketing, content and communications rockstars. Together we’ve redefined the brand, created awesome campaigns, forged new ground for the company, handled some challenging (one might say unprecedented) issues, established new communities as well as taken the business through the IPO.”
Smedley brought a wealth of experience to her role at Robinhood, which has exploded over the past year adding new features, hiring host of new C-suite executives, and undergoing an IPO that valued the company at $31.7 billion on its July debut.
Prior to joining Robinhood, she spent almost five years at Facebook, where she exited as the company’s VP of Brand and Marketing for Novi, the company’s digital wallet, and Facebook itself. Before that, she was the VP of Global Brand and Marketing for PayPal and held senior branding and communications roles at Edelman and Amazon.
