Her new role comes as the BBC splits her predecessor's role of Chief Product and Technology Officer into two separate positions.
On Monday, the BBC announced that Storm Fagan would be joining the British media broadcaster as Chief Product Officer in September 2021 and Peter O’Kane, will become Chief Technology Officer, after serving in the role on an interim basis.
The two new hires are replacing Chief Technology and Product Officer Matthew Postgate, who left BBC earlier this year. Postgate previously worked as the broadcaster’s CTO until 2016, when the digital, engineering and worldwide technology teams were combined under one unit.
Now the broadcaster is reversing course as new Director General Tim Davie sets becoming a “digital-first organization” as a organization-wide priority.
Fagan joins BBC from the online delivery startup Just Eat where she worked as CPO. In her new role, she will lead the development and delivery of the broadcaster’s audience-facing digital products, including BBC iPlayer, BBC News and BBC Sport apps, and report to COO Leigh Tavazia.
O’Kane has been acting as interim CTO since September 2020, when Postgate’s departure was announced and will continue to oversee the product team until Fagan takes over.
In addition to splitting up Postgate’s old role, the BBC has also formed the Digital Leadership Group, where Fagan and O’Kane will work closely together. The group, which is chaired by Chief Customer Officer Kerris Bright, includes existing senior leaders from both the editorial and technology division.
As CPO of Just Eat, Fagan worked in various leadership roles on the product team. Before Just Eat, she spent nine years on the product team at Future plc, a global multi-platform media company.
