Boom Supersonic has named Bob Stohrer as the supersonic passenger jet company's first-ever Chief Marketing Officer. The company also added NYU marketing professor and tech pundit Scott Galloway to its Advisory Council.
Stohrer will lead the marketing team at Boom as it continues to test and build its Overture jet in a bid to revive faster-than-the-speed-of-sound commercial air travel.
Stohrer is a veteran marketing and brand management executive with more than 30 years of experience with organizations such as the NFL, Yahoo and Sprint. Most recently, he was the CMO at Virgin Mobile. He also held the top marketing roles at iHeartRadio and Canary.
"We're moving into a new phase of growth and development at Boom, and I'm so proud of the team we've assembled to support our ambitious goals," Boom Founder and CEO Blake Scholl announced. "I look forward to adding a diversity of voices to our senior decision-making team as the complexity of our work increases."
This news builds on Boom's decision to build its first manufacturing facility for the Overture in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Overture Superfactory is on track to break ground later this year, with production beginning in 2024. Overture already has interest from United Airlines, Japan Airlines and the U.S. Airforce. It is expected to roll out of the factory in 2025, start flight tests in 2026 and carry passengers by 2029.
"Rarely do you get the incredible opportunity to shape and spotlight the efforts of a company that can so profoundly and positively impact the future," Stohrer said. "Boom's mission to make the world dramatically more accessible speaks to the great possibilities Overture will unlock for people, our partners, and the world."
Stohrer joins a rapidly expanding C-suite that welcomed Stephen Weiland as its CFO and Rich Harris as its first Chief Legal Officer this past January. In 2021, the company added Barb Bidan as its Chief People Officer and named three new board members, including former Boeing CEO Phil Condit.
