Zoom has appointed Jeff True as its new General Counsel. His first day was yesterday.
True comes to Zoom from cybersecurity giant Palo Alto Networks, where he served as General Counsel for nearly 10 years. Prior to that, True was General Counsel for broadband company 2Wire for five years.
A Zoom spokesperson commented to The Org, “We’re excited to have Jeff join our team as General Counsel. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience.”
The General Counsel role has been vacant since Aparna Bawa, Zoom’s previous Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel, was tapped to become the first ever Chief Operating Officer of the company in June.
A Zoom spokeswoman said to Bloomberg in June that Bawa would be the company’s first COO, and will no longer have the Chief Legal Officer title going forward, although legal functions will remain under her purview. Bawa joined Zoom as General Counsel in September 2018 and was promoted to Chief Legal Officer in August 2019.
Yesterday was bound to be an eventful first day for True, as a global Zoom glitch caused chaos when many users were unable to load the website for two-and-a-half hours, showing how dependant people have become on that platform.
