Facebook Promotes 11-Year Veteran as First Chief Business Officer

Marne Levine, Facebook’s VP of Global Partnerships, Business, and Corporate Development, will take on a new role as the company’s Chief Business Officer.

Marne Levine, Facebook’s VP of Global Partnerships, Business, and Corporate Development, has taken on a new role as the company’s Chief Business Officer. The newly created role effectively fills the shoes of Chief Revenue Officer David Fischer, who announced his departure from the social media giant in March 2021.

The new role places Levine in charge of Facebook’s advertising business and global partnerships teams.

“This is an important role for the company, and very well deserved on your part,” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerburg commented. “I’m grateful for everything you’ve done for Facebook, our community, and our partners over the years – and excited to work with you in your new position.”

Levine is a veteran Facebook employee who joined the company in 2010 and initially led the company’s public policy team. She later would cross over into operations and became the COO of Instagram before settling back at Facebook, where she most recently served as VP of Global Partnerships, Business, and Corporate Development.

Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg stated, “Marne – I couldn’t be prouder or more honored to have you as our first Chief Business Officer. You’ve made Facebook a better company over the last decade, and I look forward to seeing all you do in this new role. Congratulations!”

Levine will have a critical role in helping Facebook recover from the changes to Apple’s iOS which let users opt out of tracking for adverstising purposes. The privacy-orientated update is expected to put a dent in Facebook’s personalized ads business, which could seriously impact the social media titan's bottom line.

Advertising revenue is facebook’s main source of income and accounted for $84 billion of the $86 billion in revenue the company generated in 2020.

Levine will also have to help the company face down antitrust regulators in the EU and UK who have begun investigations into how the company's handles advertising data.
