GoGuardian Hires Google Exec as CPO and COO After Becoming Unicorn

Freshly-minted education technology unicorn GoGuardian has named former Google education executive Cyrus Mistry as its new Chief Product Officer and Chief Operating Officer.

His dual role places him in charge of the teams tasked with designing and building the expansion of GoGuardian’s K-12 product offerings, which currently include digital learning solutions for classroom management, engagement, assessment, and student safety.

Mistry has over 25 years of product experience, including 14 years at Google. While at the tech giant, he managed the education, enterprise, and consumer sides for a wide swath of product teams at Google. As GoGuardian points out in its press release, Mistry was the original product lead responsible for getting its Chromebook laptops into schools around the world.

“Cyrus has a keen ability to find tremendous product-market fit and envision product innovations that not only create market leaders, but completely transform the way people engage with technology,” GoGuardian CEO Advait Shinde said. “His experience in the edtech market, combined with his unmatched business intelligence, is going to help lead us through the next phase of growth at GoGuardian.”

Last week, the education tech startup revealed it had achieved unicorn status after receiving a $200 million strategic investment from Tiger Global Management. This new money paired with two acquisitions in the past 12 months set the company up for rapid growth in the coming years as schools increasingly embrace digital learning solutions in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Combined the company’s platform will reach one out of three K-12 students nationwide and serve over 22 million students at over 14,000 schools, making it one of the most widely used educational technology ecosystems in the United States.
