Hulu President Kelly Campbell has left the Disney-owned streaming service effective immediately and is reportedly in talks with NBCUniversal to take up a senior role on the broadcast media giant’s leadership team.
Until the company finds a replacement at the head of its organization, all of Kelly Campbell’s direct reports will fall under Disney Chairman of International Operations and Direct-to-Consumer Rebecca Campbell (no relation).
In a leaked internal memo, Rebecca Campbell didn’t disclose a reason for the departure but said, “Hulu remains an important part of our direct-to-consumer strategy, and I look forward to working closely with all of you until her replacement is named.”
Kelly Campbell confirmed her departure in a LinkedIn post and called her role at Hulu as her “dream job.” She joined Hulu after a 12-year career at Google that culminated in her serving as the company’s Senior Director of Growth Marketing for Google Cloud.
Given her tech background and her experience heading a global streaming service, Kelly Campbell’s new role at NBCUniversal could likely involve the company’s own streaming venture, Peacock.
The company launched Peacock a little over a year ago in July 2020 and has over 50 million subscribers, placing it ahead of Hulu but behind Netflix, Disney+, and HBO Max in terms of overall subscribers.
Campbell’s wealth of experience from her time at the helm of Hulu would be a massive boost for Peacock as the streaming giants continue to battle for screen time in households around the globe.
