Kraken’s New CFO Brings Veteran Oversight and IPO Experience

Kraken, a digital asset platform, has selected veteran financial executive Carrie Dolan as its new CFO.

Dolan brings a blend of experience from high-growth fintech startups as well as Fortune 500 companies to help Kraken as it scales. Before joining the company, Dolan was the CFO at Tradeshift, a digital payments and trade finance platform. She has also served in the CFO role at Metromile and Lending Club, where she led its 2014 IPO, and held the top finance role in business units at Charles Schwab and Chevron.

“As a rapidly growing crypto platform, finance is the cornerstone of everything we do,” Kraken CEO Jesse Powell stated. “Carrie exemplifies everything we could hope for in a CFO and we welcome her to the Kraken team.”

Powell added, “I’m very confident that Carrie’s talent, drive and record of scaling disruptive companies in regulated industries, will be instrumental in further expanding our business and laying the foundation for the next growth stage for our company.”

Kraken has entered a period of hypergrowth and ended 2021 with combined spot and future volumes 400% higher than they were the year prior. But the company’s growth doesn’t just sit in its books as the company also doubled its headcount, including adding Uber exec Pranesh Anthapur as Chief People Officer and ex-Twitter leader Mike Davidson as VP of Design. It also acquired Staked, a non-custodial staking platform that allows investors to compound their holdings on Proof-of-Stake networks.

2022 marks the dawn of a new era for many crypto ventures after companies in the blockchain and cryptocurrency space received a record $33 billion in VC funding last year. This funding boom was capped by $10.5 billion in VC allocations in Q4 alone and could lead to several IPOs in 2022, Galaxy Digital's Head of Firmwide Research, Alex Thorn, told Yahoo! Finance earlier this year.
