Alan Prescott has joined Luminar as the lidar hardware and software maker’s Chief Legal Officer.
Prescott will be in charge of all of the company’s legal operations and will also provide insights and expertise as Luminar continues to scale its business and accelerate its product and commercial roadmaps.
“Alan is an outstanding addition to our executive team with an impressive track-record and deep experience leading and directing legal functions at a range of companies in our industry,” Luminar Founder and CEO Austin Russell said in a press release.
Prescott is considered to be an automotive and autonomous industry legal expert but he has also worked as an engineer throughout his 20-year career at top OEM and technology companies. He joins Luminar from Tesla, where most recently as worked as the electric car titan’s General Counsel. Prior to his four years at Tesla, Prescott was in charge of the legal team at Uber’s Advanced Technology Group, which oversaw commercial, regulatory, litigation, privacy, and cybersecurity. He also spent over a decade leading various legal operations at Ford, where he initially began as a Safety Engineer.
Alongside Prescott’s hiring, Luminar also announced it has added Trey Campbell to lead its Investor Relations functions. The company went public through a $3.4 billion reverse merger with Gores Metropoulos Inc GMHIU.O, a special purpose acquisition company in December 2020. When the company went public Russell announced that his company has at least nine advanced development deals with automakers.
