Match Group has appointed Renate Nyborg to succeed Jim Lanzone as the CEO of Tinder, the company's flagship dating app. Based in New York, Nyborg will be Tinder's first female CEO and report directly to Match Group CEO Shar Dubey.

Lanzone is leaving the company to serve as the CEO of Yahoo.

Nyborg will officially take on her new role on September 27, 2021. However, she is no stranger to Tinder as she met her husband on Tinder and first joined the app’s team in 2020 as General Manager of Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

In her previous role at Tinder, Nyborg led the app's marketing efforts across Europe and oversaw strategic global initiatives across the company.

In a press release Dubey stated that while Nyborg has been in charge of running Tinder's European business, "she's demonstrated true leadership, and is relentlessly focused on accelerating growth and developing experiences based on what our members – particularly women – are looking for. I'm incredibly excited about working with Renate on Tinder's game changing product roadmap and supporting her as she maximizes Tinder's success.”

Before that, Nyborg built Headspace’s first international product and marketing organization and led Apple’s App Store subscription business across Europe. Dubey added that this experienced demonstrated Nyborg’s “instinct for how to develop and market mobile products, grow subscription businesses, expand in new markets, and appeal to younger users,"

Nyborg takes over as Tinder gears up to launch a slew of new and improved features to further distinguish itself among an increasingly crowded field of competitors. This year the company plans to build on its safety features with new ID verification and background check technology.

"Being CEO of this company is a truly humbling and extraordinary opportunity; to make that happen for the next generation of singles around the world,” Nyborg commented. “The Tinder team is – hands down – the most innovative and inspiring group I've ever worked with. We are building the most fun, inclusive, safest place for singles to connect. And you can see this evolution on our app. We're building the technology and raising the bar for the industry along with it."
