Christine Brown will step into a new role as Chief Operating Officer of Robinhood Crypto, while maintaining her current role of Robinhood Markets’ VP of Product Operations, the platform announced on Thursday.

As COO of crypto, she’ll oversee all of the trading platform’s crypto operations and compliance. Her role places her at the forefront of Robinhood’s efforts towards building deposit and withdrawal features for its crypto product. She will also lead the company’s crypto team which has grown three-fold in the past year with a slew of engineering, compliance, and security hires.

“For the past few years, I’ve been focused on building traditional financial infrastructure, but I’ve always been fascinated with cryptocurrency and its potential to create a more open financial system,” Brown said in a blog post. “As we continue to pursue our mission of democratizing finance for all, I couldn’t be more excited to lead our crypto operations, help our teams build amazing products, and deliver a great experience for our customers.”

Brown has been with Robinhood since 2017 and has over a decade of experience in product management and operations. Prior to joining Robinhood, she spent two years at Udacity and four years in various product roles at Google.

Robinhood’s CEO and Co-Founder, Vlad Tenev added, “Robinhood Crypto customers are reshaping the investing landscape and Christine is going to do great things leading this team at a time of tremendous growth across the industry.”

In the first quarter of 2021, Robinhood had about 9.5 million users trading cryptocurrencies on its platform an almost 460% spike from 1.7 million crypto traders in the last quarter of 2020. In late March 2021, Tenev promised that Robinhood would launch a crypto wallet with deposits and withdrawals "as fast as possible."
