Shift5, a DC metro area-based startup, has revealed that André Browne has joined its fast-growing team as its new Director of Engineering.

As the cybersecurity and data startup scales, Browne will build and guide its engineering team and help create next-generation cyber defense and edge computing platforms, according to the company's stament. He will also lead the continued development of Shift5’s suite of maintenance, cybersecurity, and operational intelligence applications.

To do so, Browne will lean on his more than two decades of experience creating software for a variety of industries, including Telecom, Data Privacy, Robotics, Automation, Retail, Logistics, Insurance, Power, Space, Aviation.

“We’re thrilled to have such a seasoned and strong addition to our team. André will lead our product engineering team into Shift5’s next phase of rapid growth, CEO Josh Lospinoso commented. “While fleet assets like locomotives and maritime vessels may look quite different from the outside, from a digital perspective there are broad similarities.”

Prior to joining Shift5, Browne led digital transformation teams at VMware Tanzu Labs, a division of the tech company that specializes in speeding up companies’ software development and modernizing their existing apps. Among the organizations he has worked with are FedEx, The Home Depot, Dicks Sporting Goods, USAF, and GE Power. He has also held positions at multiple tech startups.

"As the world becomes more and more connected the need to protect our planes, trains and automobiles could not be more apparent,” Browne added. “I am humbled and excited by the opportunity to lead the charge of building our cyber defense apparatus and also open up the rich datasets that exist on the edge. Shift5 is here to create a seismic shift in this space and I am happy to help build the team that will shape what it means to have protection and analytics on the edge."

Shift5, which raised $2.5 million in a seed round in 2019, is looking to turbocharge its growth with an influx of new talent. Earlier this month, the company hired Ralph Kahn as its Chief Revenue Officer, Matt MacKinnon to serve as its Chief Product Officer, and Egon Rinderer to take on the Chief Technology Officer role.
