On Monday, entertainment giant SiriusXM revealed that Disney’s Joseph Inzerillo has accepted an offer to become its new Chief Product & Technology Officer.
He takes over from Chief Innovation Officer and Interim Head of Product Development Jim Cady, who will retire at the end of February 2022.
Inzerillo is currently the CTO for Disney's streaming services unit and will enter his new office at SiriusXM's New York headquarters on January 10, 2022. He will be in charge of the company's product roadmap, satellite infrastructure enhancements and technology strategy across all SiriusXM platforms.
"Joe brings significant experience building and leading innovative digital platforms, and he will be instrumental as SiriusXM continues to evolve and as we execute on our growth strategies," CEO Jennifer Witz said.
Witz added that with Inzerillo in charge of leading the company's technological advancements, SiriusXM "will accelerate our efforts to develop the best product experiences for listeners to consume our unmatched content both in and out of the car."
Inzerillo is a media streaming veteran and most recently led the tech teams behind Disney's streaming operations, which includes Disney+, ESPN+, Star+ and Hulu. He also was the CTO and a founder of BAMTech Media, which Disney acquired in 2017. In his roles across MLB, BAMTech and Disney, Inzerillo has worked intimately with broadcast and satellite technology.
"This opportunity is the culmination of all of my professional experiences over the last 30 years, and one I simply could not pass up," Inzerillo said in a press release. "From the moment I accepted the role, my mind has been racing with ideas for how we can expand digital capabilities across SiriusXM's business. Together, our team will develop a product and technology roadmap that will further differentiate SiriusXM and bring creative new entertainment options to consumers at scale."
Inzerillo joins a list of high-profile leaders who have departed the media giant’s streaming business in the past couple years. This past October, Hulu President Kelly Campbell left the Disney-owned streaming and was rumored to be joining NBCUniversal. Additionally, in 2020, Disney Streaming Services CEO Kevin Mayer left to serve as TikTok's CEO, and SVP of Content for Disney+ Agnes Chu departed to become President of Condé Nast Entertainment.
