T. Varugis Kurien has a diverse work experience spanning over several industries and roles. Starting in 1991, they worked at Telcordia Technologies as a Member of Technical Staff. In 1997, they became the Chief Scientist and Co-founder of NIKSUN Inc., where they built high-speed traffic recording devices and established a global engineering team. In 2002, they joined Microsoft as the Principal Architect for Windows Security, where they co-invented UEFI secure boot and enabled compliance improvements in Windows OS. Kurien later became the Group Manager & Principal Lead Architect for the Bing Autopilot Team, delivering SDN architectures and a Software Load Balancer. From 2012 to 2015, they served as the Director and Principal Software Architect for Microsoft Learning Experiences (MLX), overseeing the architecture and delivery of a MOOC platform. Their most recent role was at Midfin Systems, starting in 2015, where they worked as the Chief Scientist, Leader, focusing on integrating open platforms and implementing Machine Learning techniques for scaling IoT deployments. Kurien also co-founded First Zoom in 2019, working as a Staff Data Scientist and Co-founder.
T. Varugis Kurien holds a B. Stat and M. Stat (First Class Hons) degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the Indian Statistical Institute.
