Dr Abigail Mabey

Dr. Abigail Mabey is a marine ecologist with extensive experience in carbon markets and environmental science. Currently serving as the Carbon Markets and Verification Lead at 44.01 since July 2024, Dr. Mabey previously held the position of Senior Carbon Ratings Scientist and Blue Carbon Lead at BeZero Carbon, focusing on risk communication within the Voluntary Carbon Market. Dr. Mabey's academic background includes a PhD in Marine Ecology from the University of Southampton, where research centered on invasive plant and seaweed traits, alongside a role with The Royal Society exploring science-based evidence for land management policy. Additionally, Dr. Mabey has gained international experience as a visiting student at the University of Otago and an educational foundation in Ecology and Conservation from Lancaster University and the University of Alberta.
