Robert Kim

Robert Kim has a diverse work experience spanning multiple companies and roles. Robert is currently the Chief Medical Officer at 4D Molecular Therapeutics since March 2023. Previously, they held the position of Senior Vice President, Clinical Research and Development at the same company from October 2020 to March 2023.

Before joining 4D Molecular Therapeutics, Robert worked as an Associate Clinical Professor at UCSF School of Medicine since 1994.

Robert has also served as the Chief Medical Officer at ViewPoint Therapeutics from 2018 to 2020, Apellis Pharmaceuticals from 2016 to 2017, and Vision Medicines from 2014 to 2016.

Prior to that, they held the role of Vice President and Head, Pharmaceutical Product Development at Alcon Laboratories - A Novartis Company from 2012 to 2014, and Vice President & Head Clinical Ophthalmology at GlaxoSmithKline from 2009 to 2012.

Robert's earlier experience includes roles like Senior Director-Ophthalmology Research and Director-Strategic Alliances at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) from 2006 to 2009, and Senior Medical Director at Genentech from 2003 to 2006.

Robert started their career as a Senior Associate at Earlybird from 2001 to 2003.

Robert Kim completed the 7-year Medical Education Program at Brown University, earning an AB and MD degree. Robert then pursued a residency in Ophthalmology at the University of California, San Francisco. Following that, they undertook a post-doctoral research fellowship in Molecular and Developmental Biology at the National Institutes of Health (NEI). Robert also completed a fellowship in Medical Retina and Vitreoretinal Surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, UK. Additionally, they obtained an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. Lastly, they earned a BPS degree from Berklee College of Music.
