Dikembe Mutombo is a Senior Advisor at 4DX Ventures. Retiring after 18 seasons as a NBA superstar in 2009, he was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame in 2015. Now a global philanthropist, investor and successful businessman, Dikembe, originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (“DRC”), is one of the most notable and impactful figures from the African continent.
A full-time advocate and ambassador for ensuring that people in need have access to the health services, educational and economic opportunities necessary to live better lives, Dikembe founded the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation and Hospital, in the DRC in 2007. Tying his philanthropic work and business acumen, Dikembe founded Mutombo African Coffee, to bring the best African coffee beans to the international market and support women-led sustainable farms, in rural communities throughout the DRC.
Dikembe was appointed as the first NBA Global Ambassador and has been an early investor and advisor to the NBA’s significant efforts to grow the sport in Africa. These efforts culminated in 2021 with the creation of NBA Africa, a league where he invested alongside other prominent ex-NBA players and included former US President Barack Obama as a strategic partner.
Dikembe serves on the boards of the CDC Foundation (Center for Disease Control), Special Olympics International, National Board for the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, and many others.
