Hannah Foehringer Merchant

Senior Manager, Global Child & Adolescent Health at AAP

Hannah Foehringer Merchant has a diverse work experience spanning multiple organizations and roles. Hannah began their career as a Prevention & Community Partnerships Program Assistant at the AIDS Foundation of Chicago in 2007. Hannah then worked as a Family & Community Services Medical Case Manager at The Children's Place Association from 2008 to 2011. In 2012, Hannah held various roles, including Follow-Up Team Supervisor at Uganda Village Project, Program Planning and Evaluation Consultant at ICOD Action Network, and Global Health Initiatives Intern at Heartland Alliance International.

Hannah's experience in community health expanded when they joined John Snow, Inc. (JSI) in 2013 as a Program Officer for projects in East Africa. Hannah'sresponsibilities included providing management and technical support to community health programs, developing guidance documents and materials, and budgeting for projects totaling $1.25 million. Hannah also led qualitative data analysis and advocacy recommendations for Uganda's Nutrition Action Plan and provided technical assistance for community health implementation across family planning, maternal, and child health.

From 2016, Hannah has been working for the American Academy of Pediatrics as a Manager, Global Child & Adolescent Health, focusing on global health issues concerning children and adolescents.

In addition to their work at JSI and the American Academy of Pediatrics, Hannah has also worked as a Short-term Consultant at Cardno Emerging Markets, contributing their expertise in strengthening decentralization for sustainability.

Throughout their career, Hannah has demonstrated strong leadership, communication, and project management skills, along with a commitment to advancing community health and addressing global health issues.

Hannah Foehringer Merchant earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Earlham College, where they attended from 2003 to 2007. Hannah later pursued a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago- School of Public Health from 2010 to 2012, specializing in Community Health and Global Health.
