Manager, Live Education Activities at AAP

Susan Shannon has a diverse work experience in various managerial roles within the medical field. Susan is currently the Manager of Live Education Activities at the American Academy of Pediatrics since April 2022. Prior to this, they served as the Education Manager at the American Association of Neurological Surgeons from March 2020 to March 2022. Susan also worked as the Manager of Education and Meetings at the Society of Surgical Oncology in 2019-2020.

Susan has extensive experience at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons where they worked as a Society Manager from 2007 to 2019. In this role, they were responsible for planning and managing annual leadership conferences and scientific meetings, including budgeting, program planning, site selection, and compliance for continuing medical education credits.

Their earlier work experience includes being a Program Manager at the HELP Network at Children's Memorial Hospital from 2005 to 2006, where they oversaw the development and implementation of medical resident curriculum on gun-injury prevention and produced member newsletters.

From 1999 to 2004, Susan worked as a Meeting Manager in the Office of Continuing Medical Education at Rush University Medical Center, where they collaborated with the Associate Dean and facilitated course faculty selection, program development, and meeting planning.

Susan also served as the Manager of Specialty Societies at the American Society of Neuroradiology in 1996-1997, where they acted as a liaison to executive committees and managed the activities of six specialty societies.

Susan Shannon earned their BA in English from The University of Kansas. Susan later pursued further education and obtained an MS in Organizational Leadership from Dominican University between 2010 and 2012.
