Bethany Brown

Bethany Brown is the Global Advocacy Director at AARP, a position held since December 2023. Prior experience includes serving as an Associate Social Affairs Officer at the United Nations, where research and writing focused on human rights and issues affecting older persons. As a Senior Human Rights Advisor for the International Disability Alliance, Bethany collaborated with global organizations to advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities at the United Nations. Previous roles also include researching human rights abuses against older individuals for Human Rights Watch and consulting on older people's rights for the World Bank Group. Bethany's early career involved positions at HelpAge USA, the United Nations, the Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and AARP. Academic credentials include a JD from American University Washington College of Law and a BA in Psychology from Barnard College.
