Kevin B. Bacon

Dr. Kevin B. Bacon, Ph.D., is a seasoned senior executive and Board Member with more than 30 years of success across the pharmaceutical, drug development, and biotechnology industries. Prior to joining Abcentra as the Chief Executive Officer, he held various senior roles in organizations developing anti-inflammation drugs across a wide array of therapeutic specifications, most recently as the Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of SMA Therapeutics Inc. (fka Axikin Pharmaceuticals, Inc.).

Dr. Bacon has also held parallel roles as acting CEO at Raft Pharmaceuticals, LLC and VP Pharmacology at Epigen Biosciences and prior to these was the founder of Actimis Pharmaceuticals Inc., where he also served as the Chief Scientific Officer and Head of Research and Development.

Dr. Bacon began his industry career at the Glaxo Institute for Molecular Biology (later Merck-Serono) in Geneva, Switzerland prior to joining the DNAX Institute for Molecular Biology as a visiting scientist. He has held senior and executive roles at Bayer Healthcare AG as the VP Respiratory Diseases Research (Bayer Yakuhin, Ltd.), and Neurocrine Biosciences in San Diego, as Associate Director of Immunology.

Dr. Bacon received his Bachelor of Science, with Honors, in Pharmacology from King’s College at the University of London, and his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals, University of London. He is an author of over 100 original manuscripts, book chapters and reviews in the field of drug discovery and inflammation biology, and a co-author on numerous issued and filed patents.
