James Mategko

James Mategko is an accomplished technology professional with extensive experience in AI engineering, software development, and bioinformatics. Currently serving as the Head of AI Engineering at Absci since June 2022, James has rebuilt three teams focused on AI Platform, AI Infrastructure, and Lab Enablement while also contributing as a Chief of Staff to the Chief Innovation Officer. Previous roles include staff and principal software engineer positions at Bevy and CBRE, where James led backend systems development and engineering initiatives. Earlier experience includes software engineering roles at IEH Laboratories, 50 Below, and various teaching assistantships. James holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science/Information Systems and Biology from The College of St. Scholastica, along with certificates in Big Data Technologies and Python Programming from the University of Washington.
