Betsy Garofalo

Betsy Garofalo has a diverse work experience in various pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Betsy is currently the Director of Alector, a position they have held since September 2021. Prior to that, they served as a Member of the Board of Directors at the Institute for Advanced Clinical Trials for Children (I-ACT for Children) starting in January 2018.

From 2016, Betsy worked as an Independent Consultant at EAG Pharma Consulting. Betsy also held leadership roles as Director of Xenon Pharmaceuticals Inc. from June 2021, Director of Acadia Pharmaceuticals Inc. from October 2020, and Director of Exicure Inc. from March 2021 until February 2023.

Betsy's extensive experience includes working at Novartis as the S.V.P. Head Clinical Development Sciences between January 2014 and March 2016, and as the S.V.P. Head Neuroscience Development Franchise from December 2010 to December 2013.

Before that, they served as the VP and Global Therapy Area Leader, CNS, at Astellas Pharma from January 2009 to December 2010. Betsy also held the position of President, Technical Center at Michigan Technology and Research Institute from March 2007 to December 2008.

Betsy's career began at Pfizer in 1992, where they held various roles including Executive Director, Executive Director in CNS Clinical and Regulatory, and Director of Clincial until 2006.

Betsy Garofalo began their education at Munster High School, where they attended from 1971 to 1975. After completing high school, they enrolled at Indiana University School of Medicine from 1978 to 1982, where they earned their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. Following this, they pursued further specialization in the field of medicine by attending the University of Michigan Medical School from 1985 to 1990. During this time, they completed fellowships in Pediatric Neurology and Epilepsy.
