Accountability Counsel
Lama Almoayed is a Research Associate at Accountability Counsel, focusing on issues of accountability in international finance and interviewing communities impacted by development finance projects. Previously, Lama served as a Technical Advisor and Senior Refugee and Protection Officer at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, handling refugee and asylum matters in New Zealand. Lama also worked as a Barrister at Bankside Chambers, dealing with civil and commercial litigation. Lama's background includes experience in legal advising, investigating war crimes, and advocating for justice for refugees and migrants. Lama holds a LLB (Hons)/ BA in Law & Sociology from The University of Auckland.

Accountability Counsel amplifies the voices of communities around the world to protect their human rights and environment. As advocates for people harmed by internationally financed projects, we employ community-driven and policy level strategies to access justice. We assist communities to effectively use accountability offices to remedy and prevent harm caused by global projects. We advocate for accountability offices that are accessible, independent, transparent, fair, and effective tools for justice. We provide trainings and tools, conduct research, and track trends within the accountability field to foster the global movement.
