Basel Touchan

Affiliate Equity Officer at ACLU of Kentucky

Basel Touchan, M.D., serves as the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Specialist and Multilingual, Migrant, and Refugee Lead for Fayette County Public Schools since March 2019, where leadership includes co-developing DEIB initiatives and engaging with community partners. Prior roles include District English Learners and Refugee Ambassador and District Refugee Advocate, focusing on program development, staff training, and support for refugee families. Currently, Basel holds board positions with the ACLU of Kentucky and Lexington-Fayette County Health Department, while also contributing as a Learning and Development Consultant for History UnErased, fostering LGBTQ history integration in education. In addition, Basel serves as Vice Chair of the Mayor's International Affairs Advisory Commission and Chair of the Mayor's International Community Emergencies and Public Health Committee, addressing immigrant community needs and public health concerns. Educational credentials include a Doctor of Medicine from Aleppo University, earned in June 2014.
