Mariana Kovel

Senior Staff Attorney at ACLU

Mariana (Molly) Kovel is a seasoned legal professional currently serving as a Senior Staff Attorney at the ACLU since May 2018. Prior experience includes roles as an Adjunct Professor of Clinical Law at New York University School of Law from August 2017 to December 2019, co-teaching a seminar on civil rights and mass incarceration. Previously, Mariana held the position of Senior Staff Attorney at the New York Civil Liberties Union from August 2016 to April 2018, focusing on civil rights litigation related to the criminal justice system. Mariana was also the Legal Director of the Civil Action Practice at The Bronx Defenders from September 2008 to July 2016, where the emphasis was on training professionals about the collateral consequences of criminal prosecutions and conducting impact litigation. Earlier in Mariana's career, a role as a Staff Attorney and Law Clerk was held at the U.S. District Court from September 2006 to August 2008. Mariana holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School and a Bachelor’s degree in American History from Columbia University.
