T. Ulrich Brechbühl was the Counselor of the United States Department of State from May 2018 to January 2021 and also served as the Acting Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs at the Department of State from March to September 2020. Brechbühl began his career as an officer with the United States Army’s 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment along the Iron Curtain and served in the 1st Cavalry Division during the Gulf War. From 1993 to 1998, he worked for Bain & Company, where, amongst other assignments, he provided consulting services to the aerospace industry. He was a co-founder and the CFO of Thayer Aerospace, a Kansas-based manufacturing business. Brechbühl then held a number of other corporate leadership roles, including as President & CEO of Migratec, Inc.; as CEO of Chamberlin Edmonds and Associates, Inc. (a business ultimately sold to Emdeon, Inc.); and as Executive Chairman of Avadyne Health. Brechbühl graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and earned an MBA from Harvard Business School.
