Kelly Borden

Director Of Youth Engagement at Adler Planetarium

Kelly Borden has a diverse work experience in the field of education and youth engagement.

Kelly started their career as a Museum Education Assistant at the Lake County Forest Preserve District in 2004.

From 2005 to 2008, Kelly worked as a School Programs Facilitator at the Museum of Science and Industry. In this role, they developed inquiry-based and hands-on scientific lab programs, facilitated floor demonstrations, and presented content for educational interactive video conferences.

In 2008, Kelly joined the Chicago Public Schools as a Substitute Teacher.

Kelly's longest tenure was at the Adler Planetarium, where they held various roles. Kelly started as a Senior Educator for Student Programs from 2009 to 2012. In this role, they developed curricula for field trip and summer camp programs and mentored junior staff members.

From 2012 to 2013, Kelly worked as a Senior Educator for Citizen Science, where they coordinated with web developers and science team members in developing online citizen science projects. Kelly also facilitated educator and student training.

In 2013, Kelly became the Citizen Science Education Lead at the Adler Planetarium. Kelly managed the educational efforts of the citizen science department and supervised educators in developing programs for high school students.

From 2017 to the present, Kelly has been the Director of Teen Programs at the Adler Planetarium. Kelly is responsible for the strategic visioning, planning, and development of programs for teens. Kelly mentors and supervises a team of educators, manages a significant budget, and secures program funding.

Throughout their work experience, Kelly has demonstrated a strong passion for education, youth engagement, and citizen science.

Kelly Borden has a Master's Degree in Public Archaeology from UCL and a Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology and Cinema from Binghamton University.
