Andres Ortiz is a seasoned engineering professional with extensive experience in the development of embedded software applications for unmanned aerial systems (UAS). As Chief Engineer and Principal Software Engineer at AeroVironment since March 2015, Ortiz has been involved in system-level design, integration, and testing of autopilot software, alongside generating comprehensive software requirements. Prior to this role, Ortiz served as an Aerospace Research Engineer at Aptima, Inc., where contributions included leading technical projects in signal processing, machine learning, and optimization, as well as managing proposal writing for various defense and NIH grants. Ortiz's academic background includes a Ph.D. and a Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, complemented by a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.
