Michael Tipton has a diverse work experience that spans over different sectors. Michael started their career as an intern in the Office of Sen. John Breaux in 2004. In 2005, they worked as a teacher for the City of New York before transitioning to a student assistant role at Louisiana State University in 2001. At LSU, they primarily worked on research that contributed to the university's flagship agenda. In 2007, they joined Teach For America as an Executive Director, where they served until 2015. Currently, they hold the position of President at The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation, a role they have held since 2015.
Michael Tipton completed their education with a High School Diploma from University High School in 2001. Michael then went on to Louisiana State University and earned a Bachelor's degree in History and Political Science from 2001 to 2005. Later, from 2005 to 2007, they pursued a Masters of Science in Teaching with a specialization in Social Studies from Pace University.
