Richard started his social care career working as a care assistant in a residential care service for people with a learning disability.
He subsequently qualified as a social worker, working in mental health services and services for people with a learning disability. Since then, he has held a range of roles in both the NHS and in local authorities in various parts of the country. This has included the post of Director of Adult Social Care in two different local authorities. As a result, he has a wide range of operational and commissioning experiences.
