Paul Martinez

Paul Martinez is the Vice President of Exploration at Africa Oil. Paul has over 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, with a focus on exploration in Africa and Latin America.

Martinez began their career as an Exploration Coordinator for Latin America with Occidental International Exploration Inc. in 1994. Paul then spent three years with Africa Oil Corp., Africa Oil UK, and Africa Oil SA Corp. before joining Occidental Libya Oil & Gas BV as Director of Geosciences in 2007.

In 2010, Martinez returned to Occidental Petroleum as Exploration Manager for the Oxy Permian Ltd. In this role, they were responsible for managing the geosciences and exploration for 10 operated and 4 non-operated exploration contract areas. Paul also oversaw budgets averaging $130 million per year, drilled 13 exploration wells, and acquired several large 2D and 3D seismic surveys.

Paul Martinez has a Master of Science (M.S.) in Mathematical and Petroleum Geology from Stanford University, a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Geology from The University of Texas at Austin, and a PhD in Applied Earth Sciences, Mathematical and Petroleum Geology from Stanford University.
