Felipe Tristán

Manager of Creative Partnerships at Afro Latin Jazz Alliance

Mexican-born conductor, flutist, and music educator, Felipe Tristán joined the ALJA team in 2016. In addition to several years of experience as a Teaching Artist, Felipe has experience in arts administration, marketing strategy, and event production & promotion.

In 2011, Felipe moved to NY after being accepted into the prestigious Lincoln Center Education Kenan Fellowship. Following his Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall debut, Felipe continues to foster music education as one of the main pillars of his career. He has performed across the U.S., México, Switzerland, Panamá, and China, where he recently presented a TED X Talk about Music Education.

Currently, he is Music Director of the Symphony Orchestra of the Americas, Assistant Conductor of the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra, Conductor of String Orchestras at Brooklyn College Preparatory Center for the Arts, Music Director of the International Summer Opera Festival of Morelia, and Marketing Manager for the Afro Latin Jazz Alliance.

The Afro Latin Jazz Alliance is dedicated to preserving the music and heritage of big band Latin Jazz, supporting its performance for new audiences, and educating young people in the understanding and performance of this important cultural treasure. The Alliance maintains a world-class collection of Latin jazz musical scores and recordings, provides institutional support for the GRAMMY Award-winning Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra directed by Arturo O'Farrill, and provides education programs for young musicians and new audiences.
