Jennifer Lightner began their work experience in 2000 as an Office Coordinator at American Family Insurance, where they worked until 2003. Jennifer then worked as a Bridal Consultant and Wedding Planner at Reminise Bridal from 2005 until 2007. In 2006, they joined ZMC Hotels as a Customer Experience representative, and in 2007, they became a Store Manager at Alfred Angelo. Jennifer Lightner then joined Age of Learning, Inc. / ABCmouse.com in 2009, initially starting as QA & Customer Support before being promoted to various roles such as QA Manager, Production Manager, and eventually Senior Director of Operations.

Jennifer Lightner graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 2007 with a double major in International Studies and History.
