Sonya Smart has extensive experience in executive leadership and advisory roles in the aged care industry. Sonya began their career in 2001 at Southern Cross Care (WA) Inc., where they held positions as the Chief Manager of Community Care and later as the Chief Manager of Residential Care. In 2010, they became the Chief Executive of Catholic Homes Incorporated, a role they held until 2017. After that, Sonya served as the Chief Executive Officer of VMCH from February 2017. Additionally, they have served as a Board Member for Meaningful Ageing Australia since December 2017. Sonya's commitment to the aged care sector is evident through their role as a Member of the Aged Care Workforce - Industry Reference Committee since 2019 and as an Advisory Committee Member for St Kevin's College Toorak since 2020.
Sonya Smart completed their Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Business Administration and Management at Curtin University from 2007 to 2010. Sonya also obtained a Graduate Australian Institute of Company Directors degree from the Australian Institute of Company Directors in 2016. In addition, they earned a Master of Psychology (MPsych) degree in Clinical Psychology from Edith Cowan University from 1999 to 2002. Sonya also pursued another MBA degree, specializing in Business Administration, at Curtin University, although the start and end years are not specified.
