Senior Medical Director, Global Medical Affairs - Rare Genetic Diseases at Agios Pharmaceuticals

Parija Patel has extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with a focus on medical affairs. Currently, they hold the role of Senior Medical Director, Global Medical Affairs at Agios Pharmaceuticals. In this position, they lead post-launch activities for the company's FDA-approved treatment for Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (PKD) and is involved in the development of treatments for Myelodysplastic Syndrome and phenylketonuria.

Prior to their current role, Parija worked as a Global Medical Director at Sanofi, where they led the medical affairs strategies and activities for a targeted monoclonal antibody program in cold agglutinin disease. Parija Patel successfully guided the program through the FDA, EMEA, and PMDA approval processes, resulting in the first approved treatment for this disease.

Previous to their time at Sanofi, Parija held various roles at Pfizer, including Medical Director for Sickle Cell Disease and Senior Manager of US Medical Affairs. Parija Patel also gained experience in global marketing, inflammation and immunology, and dermatology.

Parija's academic contributions include serving as a preceptor for the Pfizer Medical Affairs Fellowship at Rutgers University and an adjunct assistant professor at Long Island University. Parija Patel has also worked in medical communications and drug information specialist roles earlier in their career.

Parija Patel holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Long Island University. Additionally, Parija Patel has pursued further education and obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from Stevens Institute of Technology, specializing in Corporate Innovation and Leadership.
