Sam Andersen is an experienced non-executive director with a strong background in governance, risk management, and finance. Current roles include Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee at SERV and VicRoads, as well as Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee for Victoria Police. Additionally, Sam serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors for Agriculture Victoria Services and the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation. Formerly involved with Breakthrough Victoria and the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Trust, Sam's extensive experience includes significant contributions to Beyond Bank Australia and Australian Hearing Services. Education includes qualifications as a Certified Practising Accountant and degrees in Accounting and Law from Queensland University of Technology, along with leadership courses from the Australian Institute of Company Directors and FINSIA.

AVS is a specialist, professional entity responsible for protecting and commercialising novel technologies created by the Agriculture Victoria Research branch (AVR) of the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA). AVS maximises the commercial value and impact of Agriculture Victoria research & innovation, so that Victorian agriculture and related industries are strong, innovative, and sustainable, in order to contribute to better economic and societal outcomes. The AVS management team consists of 17 professional and support staff, that provide the specialist capability necessary to meet the Company’s obligations to government, and the expectations of stakeholders. The Company has a skills-based and gender-balanced Board of directors that consists of six members. The Victorian Government looks to AVS to work with AVR to ensure its research is optimised, where appropriate, by commercialisation of its IP assets and scientific capabilities. In this way AVS helps the government to meet its objectives – by providing expert IP management and commercialisation services; commercial research and innovation collaboration services; and technology investment services that maximise the adoption and impact of AVR research outputs and capability. AVS provides an impartial commercial interface with the private sector to enhance and expedite route-to-impact for the research outputs of AVR, for the benefit of Victorian agriculture and related local industries. To deliver on the Company’s purpose, AVS have the following strategic objectives: 1. IP Management - Maximise IP asset value and impact 2.
