Ulrich Paquet

Ulrich Paquet is a seasoned technology professional currently serving as the Executive Director at AIMS South Africa since January 2023. With a strong background in research and machine learning, Ulrich has been a Senior Staff Research Scientist at Google DeepMind since April 2016. Previous roles include Research Manager at Apple for a brief duration and Senior Machine Learning Engineer at VocalIQ, a startup known for developing the world's first self-learning dialogue API. Ulrich also contributed as a Senior Researcher at Microsoft, focusing on big data solutions and the Xbox Live Recommender System, which served over 50 million users. Earlier experience includes a Software Engineer position at Imense Ltd., a high-tech startup specializing in image search. Ulrich holds a PhD in Machine Learning from the University of Cambridge and an MSc in Computer Science from the University of Pretoria.
