Joy Zhang has a diverse work experience in the field of engineering and research. Joy started their career at Mobile LLC as a Principle Scientist and later worked as a Research Programmer at interACT. Joy then joined Carnegie Mellon University as a Research Assistant Professor and later became a Research Associate Professor, where they conducted research on mobile computing, language processing, and user behavior modeling.

In 2013, Joy Zhang joined Facebook as a Research Scientist and Engineering Manager. During their time there, they led various projects, including the development of machine learning models for content quality modeling and the creation of the DeepText system for text classification. Joy also worked on user content understanding projects, such as large-scale topic classification and interest embedding for Facebook groups.

In 2018, Joy Zhang joined Airbnb as the Head of AI Labs and the Chair of ML Council. Joy later took on the role of Head of Intelligent Support Platform and Products and is currently serving as the Director of Engineering.
